Being and becoming

   A Film by Clara Bellar

English version, available subtitles:

AUTONOMOUS LEARNING OF AUTONOMOUS DISTRIBUTION...

Being and Becoming is self-distributed by Pourquoi Pas Production, and maybe also by you?

We chose a collaborative distribution model so as to be consistent with the spirit and values of our film, which enables our team to be in close contact with theater directors, community associations, and individuals. This connection with the needs, requests and wishes behind the organization of screenings allows us to better and more authentically support the sharing of the film's central values so many people care deeply about.

A film Q&A session allows for a sharing of experience amongst viewers, for exploring ideas further and for creating local connections. The DVD doesn't replace such lively and supportive exchanges.

If you wish to screen BEING AND BECOMING near you, here are the steps to follow:

1 - CHOSE YOUR WAY TO SCREEN THE FILM

There are two ways for you to screen "Being and Becoming."

A. The first is to organize a screening at an existing theater in your area. Each movie theater owner will have different needs. Call a few local theaters to find out their guidelines on renting their screens. A given theater may need a guaranteed minimum audience, or separate E&O insurance, and we need to know all of these parameters before we plan your screening there. If you have a theater in mind and are interested in going that route, please email Sophie and she will be happy to guide you.

B. You may also choose a private screening in a home or a room in a library, church, community center, business center, etc.
To host a screening, you simply need to purchase our DVD screener pack, then find a projector, large TV, or place with equipment to show the movie. It's up to you to decide how many people are invited and how you cover the cost for the screener (some have their group buy it, others have suggested donations, and some just pay for it themselves).

2 - CHOOSE WHICH SCREENER PACK* BEST WORKS FOR YOU

The Screener Pack license comes in three different options
(Tax included. Screener will be in the form of a password protected download, with permission to make your own hard copy to use for the screening you're buying a license for. If you wish to receive a hard copy screener in the mail, in addition to the download, please choose shipping option.)

- Basic Fee Screening $100 - This is for you if you will host the screening for free and won't charge for admission.

- Non Profit Fundraiser $200 - This is for you if you are a Non-profit who wants to use the movie screening event as a way to raise funds for your organization.

- For Profit Screening $300 - This for you if you plan to charge admission to the community for your screening.

* The screening pack comes with:
  1. The screener download. If you prefer to also receive a hard copy screener, just let us know.
  2. A license to show the movie once to your community (permission may be granted for further screenings)
  3. A helpful guide to further discussion after the screening
  4. Downloadable poster, flyers, photos and press kit.

3. THINK ABOUT WHO TO INVITE FOR THE Q&A

Our director can be invited to join your screening Q&A, in person or via Skype should your screening location permit it and depending on her availability. We can also help you find local guests. Email Sophie for details.

4 - LET YOUR FRIENDS KNOW

Before contacting a movie theater, share the project with your friends, family and colleagues in order to extend the reach of your actions as a budding distributor. Also try to find support from your local community.

5 - GET THE TOOLKIT

Download the press kit, poster & trailer. These tools will be useful when you ask the theater to screen the film.

6 - MEET WITH THE PROGRAMMER IF YOU'RE HOSTING IN A FILM THEATER

Visit the movie theatre's programmer and tell them about your wish. Let them know what kind of support you already have (friends, local associations...). It's important for them to be aware of the audience's motivation and of such a screening's potential. Send them to BeingAndBecomingFilm.com and give them Sophie's email address. She is our distribution coordinator, and she will answer his technical and logistical questions.

7 - AGREE ON A DATE

You will need a minimum of 2 to 3 weeks prior to the screening to let people know about it. If possible, schedule the screening during the weekend.

8 - SPREAD THE WORD

To get a large turnout, you can spread the word via email, social media (create your own Facebook event and we'll share it), customized flyers. You can also reach out to your local news outlet (see the "Media" list on your city or region's Wikipedia page.) We are here to help you and will share our tools and ideas.
